On December 23, Maine was hit by a freakish storm. We were hit with wind driven rain with gusts as high as 65mph with widespread flooding. In the town of Standish at one point I’d heard that there were in excess of 5,000 homes without power. Lakewood Cannabis simply could not open that day, but what we could do is to plan on how we could handle a potentially long outage. We found out that the building that houses Lakewood Cannabis had a power pole that caught fire. All of the crews that could set a new pole for us were helping CMP get as many people’s power back as soon as possible, and we were at the bottom of that priority list – which we fully understood.
So we made the best use of the time that we could in getting our generator running, identifiying which equipment was mission critical and testing it out. A special shout out to Alexandria Goodwin our Cultivation Manager and Chris Claar our Standish Retail manager for their help. We did all of this in hopes that our patients and customers would need our services. Regardless of the wind, rain or loss of power, bills still must be paid and after the loss of the Point of Banking terminal earlier in the month removing our ability to process electronic transactions our company really needed to have a good Christmas. But no one had power. Everyone was scrambling for supplies trying to have what one customer later referred to a “Blackout Christmas”, would they be able to squeeze a visit into their already tight schedules? Even if they could, would we be able to provide the heat, power and wifi needed?
Did the customers come? Oh my Lord did they ever! We were only able to have one register and I don’t think that the showroom ever got what I would consider “warm”, we didn’t have a great lighting solution and our wifi was in and out from time to time but we managed to keep people flowing through the store. Our customers were so kind, patient and understanding! Our parking lot was full and still they came – right up until we closed at 5:00PM.
We are a retailer that serves the public and stive to be a valued member of our community. From our hearts to yours, thank you for the support you’ve shown us and we hope to be here for a long time to come. Thank you.
